Round table for equality against racism | 02.06.2021
Jews and Muslims naturally belong to our urban society. The threats to set fire to synagogues are to be condemned in the strongest possible terms. They show the need to guarantee the security and protection of the Jewish communities as best as possible. Like all other believers and non-believers, people of the Jewish and Muslim faith are protected by the Basic Law: “Human dignity is inviolable. It is the duty of all state authorities to respect and protect them. "
We welcome the “Hanover Appeal”, which was signed on May 19 by representatives of Jewish, Palestinian and Muslim institutions in Hanover and the Lord Mayor Belit Onay, as a clear signal against hatred and violence.
The conflict between the Israeli government and Hamas, to which many innocent civilians have fallen victim, must not impair peaceful coexistence in our city and lead to acts of violence.
We are committed to respectful cooperation in Hanover. Hanover is and will remain a diverse and cosmopolitan city.
